Step #1 Gather
Tools and
Preparation
Gather your fondant making tools;
Microwave oven
16 oz mini marshmallows
Vegetable shortening
Smooth clean work surface
Wooden spoon
And a microwave safe bowl
1/4 cup of water
In this example we are making unflavored
non-colored marshmallow fondant. Over
100 color powders are available on line.
Let’s get started!
Pour marshmallows in microwave safe
bowl.
Add 1/4 cup of water to marshmallows.
Microwave for one minute and forty
seconds.
Step #2 Add Sugar
and Stir
Apply vegetable shortening to spoon.
Stir melted marshmallows till dissolved.
Add approx 1/3 of a 2 lbs bag of 10x
powdered sugar.
Stir till dissolved.
Step #3 Add More
Sugar and Stir
Add another approx. 1/3 bag
powdered sugar. This will leave
you with about 1/3 bag of
powdered sugar.
Stir till dissolved.
Add approx. 1/2 of remaining
powdered sugar leaving around
2 cups in bag.
Stir till dissolved.
Step #4 Folding
Pour remaining powdered sugar
(approx. 2 cups) on to work surface.
Pour contents on to powdered sugar
bed.
Apply vegetable shortening to hands.
Fold powdered sugar in to fondant.
Step #5 Kneading
Continue folding till all powdered sugar
is dissolved.
This should take about two minutes.
Transition from folding to kneading.
Knead till fondant is stretchy and not
sticky.
Step #6 Store and Cure
Apply shortening to finished fondant.
This will keep it from sticking to your
bag or sealed container.
Place marshmallow fondant in
sealed container or bag at room
temp. for 24 hours to cure/set up.
Knead again before using.
You now have great tasting
marshmallow fondant!
